I've lost a little here and there trying and failing at trading. I lost a little more on scams. I lost the most in bitcoins by gambling.

I've missed out on tons of money. For example, in December I bought 20 ETH and then sold them almost immediately for a very small gain. If I had held, I'd be doing well right now.

I first learned about bitcoin when my friend, DJ, was talking about it in a friend's party. He was very enthusiastic, saying: "It's like cash, but you can send it across the world without needing a middleman." But it is still quite cumbersome to send Bitcoins, so that is why a lot of people hold on to it as an investment.

I am learning about cryptocurrency from cointelegraph , and the others at Coindesk, about at the same time. I am also interested in the latest in the financial industry, especially those subjects which combine science with innovation and risk, as well as finance with technical aspects. I started to keep an eye on bitcoin, because I started to notice the limitations of the financial system I live with everyday and with the efforts in progress for bitcoin-friendly solutions to help the transition to a more open, sustainable, stable, balanced economy.

I work as a bartender. I often visit cointelegraph .com to follow the latest news about bitcoin. But to see what other people are saying, I usually turn to social media. Social media is where most bitcoiners are hiding and doing their conversations, often with less politeness than in person.

Anyways, some of them - let's call them altcoins - are taking away our business. I'm thinking of alternatives for several months now, because it's obvious that people want alternatives. There are so many altcoins out there now

I lost my bitcoin on a pyramid scheme. Here is how i lost.

Mt Gox

A bitcoin exchange was taking millions of dollars from thousands of people. Due to a mistake they invested hundreds of thousands of dollars. I have heard of hundreds of pyramid scheme. However this seems worse than most. Mt Gox created one of the biggest m-dotcoins. Everyone had to pay off millions in fees.

About 15 to 20% to take control of your coins. The remaining 85 to 90% to cover the costs. Over the years people have lost everything.

I lost my money on cryptocurrency trading. Do not lose your money on cryptocurrency trading. Do not go to any websites that claim that they sell cryptocurrency for good rates. In the past 3 months I lost over $400 in investment of my money in cryptocurrency trading. I bought it in a low price then, I saw some huge spike, I sold it and bought more, it dropped. I could have lost another $100,000 on this.

I lost 700$ in bitcoin. Here is how it happened. I was upgrading my wife’s computer from windows XP to windows 7 (OS). So for that she needed a new copy of Microsoft office 2008 for windows 7. I took some time to do the upgrade (it takes ~30min) and when I had the upgrade running, I let it do it’s stuff in the background. Then I went to use the computer for an hour or two. Next time I tried to start the computer, I got a blue screen of death. Apparently, Windows autorun’d the upgrade and corrupted the hard disk and now Windows had to rebuild the hard disk. When the repair was finished, Windows reported “transferring data to temp hard drive…back up your data to a safe place first”. I think you get the point.

The next time I tried to start the computer, the machine said it couldn’t detect any operating system. I had to restart the computer by typing “start > user mode” then typing “safe mode”. Then I could press “f” to load the factory settings. After doing that, I found that I had to re-install windows 98! The entire process took about 20min, and I spent about 1000$ in hard-earned bitcoins. I think the bitcoin exchange was at 100$ at that time. After the repair, the machine would always power-on, but would never allow me to start it. The screen would turn blue. To my way of thinking, this was an indication that the hard drive was malfunctioning and that the entire computer had to be removed and replaced.

It was a very unfortunate event. I had hopes of cashing the bitcoin, of fixing the hard drive and selling the computer for some much-needed cash. I decided to take my chances and call Samsung. The first person I talked to, told me I was the third person to call in the last month and that nobody had any answers. I figured I would give it a few more days. One day later, the salesman called me to see if I was still interested in the device. I told him that the other representatives of Samsung had turned me down, but I would be interested if he was willing to work out a deal. He immediately offered me a 20% discount on the entire repair and also offered a replacement of the hard drive for free. I was really relieved! So, I had my computer repaired by a Samsung technician, and I got a free hard drive, at a better price than the internet had been offering me, and I also got a discount on a new Windows 7! This is a HUGE help for me. I can’t express how grateful I am! Thanks for reading.
